Diseases, Illnesses, And Disabilities That Greatly Benefit From Walk-in Tubs

Contrary to common belief, walk-in tubs are not designed for seniors only. There are many illnesses, diseases, and disabilities that can be managed easier and better with the use of a walk-in tub, and that includes the ones that affect younger age groups as well.

Cerebral Palsy, for example, is a neurological disorder that is the result of a brain malformation or a non-progressive brain injury. This disorder takes place when a child’s brain is still undergoing development, and it affects muscle coordination and body movement in general.

Children with cerebral palsy can greatly benefit from walk-in tubs, as the water’s buoyancy and the hydrotherapy feature allow muscles to relax, which decreases the need for painkillers. Walk-in tubs are also famous for their safety; seats are ADA-compliant, the floor is anti-slip, bars are also included, in addition to the low-threshold entrance for easier entry and exit.

People with diabetes can also benefit from walk-in tubs, especially the ones that are experiencing peripheral neuropathy in the feet, which is around 60% to 70% of all diabetic patients.

Walk-in tubs provide diabetics who can still feel pain in their feet with immediate relief using the leg-only massage feature. Soaking in water is also great for improving blood circulation, which means that blood gets to the feet faster, promoting a quicker healing process.

Fibromyalgia is another chronic disorder that can be better managed with the use of a walk-in tub. Fibromyalgia is a disorder that causes overall musculoskeletal pain, in addition to general fatigue, sleep, and memory problems.

Most walk-in tubs include a hydrotherapy feature that helps in the management of pain. It also promotes endorphins production and blood circulation, in addition to loosening up tight muscles, and ultimately helping both muscles and mind relax.

When it comes to conditions that generally affect older age groups, such as arthritis, heart diseases and Alzheimer’s, walk-in tubs prove to be very helpful.

For arthritis, walk-in tubs with hydrotherapy features help a great deal. Warm water eases joint pain and helps increase blood flow to sore tissues.  For heart conditions, relaxing in warm water, coupled with hydrotherapy massage, is not only relaxing, it also helps alleviate pain and boosts circulation. When it comes to people with Alzheimer’s, a walk-in tub is a great bathing option for them and their caregivers, as they are safe and easy to maneuver, thus preventing falls, or at least keeps them at a minimum.
